2007 - Macau

7 Days to Macau, Zhuhai, Shenzhen, Panyu, Shunde, Foshan, & Guangzhou

11 - 17 Mac 2007

We booked our tour with Mangga Travel & Tours S/B for RM1495 per pax.

Day 1 - 11 Mac 2007

We arrived at Macau International Airport at night and was immediately transferred to Zhuhai, a beautiful seaside city, and checked into Golden Phoenix Hotel

This is the underground shopping centre at the Zhuhai immigration check point

After checking in a few of us ventured out to explore the area around the hotel. We spotted a Jusco store not far from the hotel. Unfortunately it is almost closing time and we did not have time shopping.

Day 2 - 12 Mac 2007

We had our breakfast at this restaurant. Lili trying out the Guzheng. The Guzheng is a plucked string instrument that is part of the zither family. It is one of the most ancient Chinese musical instruments according to the documents written in the Qin dynasty

After breakfast we visited the Shijing Hill Park (Shijingshan Park) park and enjoyed the nice view by cable car.

At the top is a rock decorated with locks left by lovers as a symbol of their commitment to each other

Shijingshan Park is a beautiful park with great scenery, there are cable cars to the top of the mountain where you can see all around Zhuhai, also you can take the rail slide back down or walk the steps, hire boats on the boating lake and enjoy a walk round in the sunshine. The park is free of charge.

Relaxing at the foothill of Shijingshan Park

Next we visited the Statute of Fishergirl. The statue of fisher girl has become the symbol of Zhuhai, and is located at the scenic Xianglu Bay.

Fisher girl is very beautiful but a little shy. She stands at the charming Xianglu Bay in an elegant pose, and raising a bright pearl with both hands high in the air, symbolizing Zhuhai's brightness. The statue was designed by a famous chinese sculptor, Panhe. The granite is 8.7 meters high and 10 tons in weight.

Next we visited a tea farm.

Trying my hand frying tea.

This is a house made of tree barks and bamboo.

We then proceeded to Zhongshan and visiited Sun Wen Park.

Zhongshan Park is a common name for Chinese parks, in honour of Sun Yat-sen, better-known in Chinese as Sun Zhongshan, who is considered by many to be the "Father of modern China". Currently there are more than 40 Zhongshan Parks in China, and some in overseas areas.

We arrived at Shenzhen in the evening. This is Dongmen Street where  we did some shopping

We spent the night in Shenzhen at Mei Yi Hotel.

Day 3 - 13 Mac 2007

After breakfast we visited the Lotus Hillpark.

Lotus Hill Park, also referred to as Lianhua Mountain Park and Lianhuashan Park, is an oasis of open green spaces, winding scenic paths, leaf-sheltered picnic spots, and heady floral fragrances in the heart of the city. The park has a lake and two hills as well as 166 hectares of land adorned with grass, plants, flowers and trees.

Mountain-Top Square is the focal point of the park, where visitors can enjoy a bird's eye view of the city. At the center of the square is a large statue of comrade Deng Xiaoping striding forward and looking benevolently over the city. This statue was erected on the Chinese National Day in 2000.  The statue has an inscription of Jiang Zemin, Deng Xiaoping's successor.

Our next stop is the Shenzhen Museum

Enjoying our Chinese tea at Shenzhen Museum tea shop

We had our lunch at the First Communist Restaurant. We experienced first hand how the communists cook their food which is fried everything, including rice, in a kwali.

With our communist comrades after our lunch.

After lunch we went to the Splendid China Folk Village.

Splendid China Miniature Park theme park and China Folk Culture Village together make up Splendid China Folk Village. They can both be visited with one ticket. In Miniature China, there are models of many places and buildings that China is famous for. So in a way, it is like touring China in a few hours. Perhaps visiting the two theme parks can be used as a quick way to learn about China and the ethnic cultures.

Splendid China is a theme park for models of Chinese attractions, and Window of the World across the road is a theme park for attractions around the world. The park is across Shennan Highway from Windows of the World. The park measures about 30 hectares or about 74 acres. Like Window of the World, the models in Splendid China are in a scale of 1:15 more or less. Arriving at the entrance on Shennan Highway, to your right is the Chinese Folk Culture Village and to your left is China Miniature Park (which in fact is not so miniature). The park has been in existence for over 20 years, and it displays scenery and historical architecture that reflect the essence of traditional Chinese culture.

Day 6 - 16 Mac 2007

We were suppose to cross over to Macau for a half day tour but unfortunately was held up at a slaughter house by the Chinese local guide who wanted to make the last dollar from our spending! We just had time to take a photo of the Statute of Mercy and spend half an hour at the Golden Sand Casino before departing to the airport for our flight home. This is the lowest point in our six days tour.
