2011 - Hatyai & Phuket, Thailand

6 Days to Hadyai & Phuket, Thailand

28 Aug - 2 Sep 2011

Hadyai has always been a favorite holiday destination for us. We have been to Hadyai many times, sometimes as frequent as twice a year. So when there is an organized tour by bus from KL to Hadyai and Phuket we booked it together with my brother, sis-in-law and nephews. What are the attractions in Hadyai? For us it is cheap Thai massage, cheap food and cheap clothing. Among our usual foodstuff purchases are dried longan, cashew nuts, dried cuttlefish, tom yam flavored instant noodles and canned groundnuts.

Our 6 days 5 nights Hatyai & Phuket Tour with Holiday Century Travel & Tours S/B cost us RM899 per pax.

Day 1 (28th Aug 2011)

Our journey to Hadyai started from Kuala Lumpur at 5am and arrived at the Thai border at 4pm. After clearing immigration we arrived at our hotel at about 5:30pm.. After a short rest we took the tuk tuk to Lee Garden Hotel 33rd Floor for our favorite and cheapest buffet in town. The 33rd floor restaurant has a panoramic view of Hadyai town.

Day 2 (29th Aug 2011)

This morning we started our journey to Phuket at about 5am. On the way we had our breakfast at Trang. We tasted the famous Trang roast pork.

Famous Trang roast pork. Tasted a bit sweet.

After lunch we journey to James Bond Island by boat

On the way we passed by an Island that has hole that you can canoe through the other side

At the background are the bust islands

Day 3 (30th Aug 2011)

Time to relax after the long  boat journey

This is the busiest street in Patong town. Some of the "girls" are lady boys. Be careful who you befriend

There are many watering holes along this Patong street

We had our supper after our Thai massage

Day 4 (31st Aug 2011)

Snake charmer at work

We had our lunch here, which is one of the largest buffet restaurants in Phuket offering over 100 dishes.

Tonight we watch the famous Phuket FantaSea Show that comes with a buffet dinner. It is an optional item that cost us RM160 per person but is worth the money.

The Phuket Fantasea Show, or Fantasy of a Kingdom, is a Las Vegas style Thai cultural show infused with cutting edge technology and state-of-the-art show elements. The essence of being Thai, everything from the love for freedom and fun, courage and compassion, is being represented in each scene. See nine exciting shows featuring thai culture, magic illusion, acrobatics, animal performance, pyrotechnics, stunts, aerial performance, 4-D effects, special effects.

Created at a cost of over 3,500 million baht (US$ 100 million), Phuket Fantasea offer a multitude of attraction not found anywhere else in the world.

We arrived early so we had some time to take some pictures outside the venue.

The is the Golden Kinnaree Restaurant that we had our buffet dinner. The world’s grandest 4,000 seat dinning facility where visitors can indulge in the most sumptuous feast of Royal Thai dishes and popular international crusine.

While waiting for the show to start we took pictures of the many attractions inside the compound. Inside here is like a mini theme park. We had to surrender all our cameras for safe keeping before we enter the theatre as photography is not allowed inside. Behind us is the 3000 seat, State of the Art Theater that house an award-wining Las Vegas-Style theatrical production.

Day 5 (1st Sep 2011)

On the way back to Hadyai we came across this unique restaurant that was constructed from an old bus

The street of Hadyai are lined up with plenty of stalls selling food, clothes and knick knacks This stall sells fried prawns is nearby Lee Garden Hotel

It sells fried quails as well

Day 6 (2nd Sep 2011)

Before we check out this morning we walked to the Kim Yong market to do some last minute shopping and to eat our favorite glutinous rick with young coconuts cooked with brown sugar.

Kim Yong Market is famous for the locals to get imported snacks from Malaysia and Singapore. You will find many muslim vendors sellling merchandise on the street. The market itself has many small stalls nestled on narrow alleyways. It is covered and can get a bit clasterphobic sometimes.
