2019 - Shenzhen

3 Days Shenzhen Adventure
18 - 20 April 2019

This is our 3rd visit to Shenzhen, having been here in 1997 & 2007 as part of a tour. This time is a bit more relax as we spend time in Shenzhen Museum, Sea World Plaza and the Splendid China & Folk Culture Village. Unfortunately our day at Splendid China & Folk Culture Village was marred by rain throughout the day.

Day 1 - 18 April 2019

We took the high speed train from Guangzhou South Railway Station to Shenzhen North Railway Station. A journey that takes only 29m. Upon arrival we took the subway to Laojie Station and checked into Sunon Hotel which is less than 100m from the subway station.

We our lunch at the nearby food street. After lunch we took the subway to Civic Centre Station to visit Shenzhen Museum which offers free entrance.

In total there are three floors in the Shenzhen Museum and you’ll need about two hours to see the whole museum. Most of the exhibits are set up like ancient Chinese cities which adds to the excitement and anticipation for what’s to come.

Later we took the subway to Sea World Station and exit straight into Sea World Plaza. This is truly an international place where a lot of foreigners hangout and you truly feel like you are out of China. With a  colorful musical fountain show, dining, coffee shops and resting area together, which makes a unique spot in Shenzhen. Especially there are many international restaurants in this entertainment complex. The musical fountain show will be at 7.00 PM / 8.00 PM

Sea World Plaza

Minghua ship was originally a luxury liner built by French named Ancerville and launched on April 5, 1962, for services from Marseilles to Dakar. The Ship was sold to China in 1973 and was renamed as Minghua which is meaning ” Spirit of China”. Minghua ship  now is operated as Cruise hotel and has 253 rooms.

We had our dinner in one of the restaurants and is able to view the 7pm musical fountain show from where we sit.

Day 2 - 19 April 2019

After breakfast we took the subway to Futian Station to purchase our high speed train ticket to Hong Kong tomorrow. After that we go straight to Splendid China and Folk Culture Village. We have been to these two attractions when we were on a tour in Shenzhen in 1997 and 2007. Since it is one of the itineraries in the tour we did not spend much time here. So this time we decided to spend the whole day here until the show ends at night. Unfortunately it rained the whole day. So we did not have the opportunity to walk around the miniature buildings in Splendid China. We spent most of our time watching the indoor folk cultural shows in the Folk Culture Village.

It was raining and the Wei Ethnic Village cultural that was held outdoor was cancelled. However, we were invited into one of the dancers tents and given a private performance.

The highlight of the events in Splendid China & China Folk Culture Villages is the Dragon and Phoenix Dance Show at 7:30pm. Renowned as the "Chinese evening party" and a must see show in Shenzhen, Dragon and Phoenix Dance narrates the birth, development and flourishing of Chinese civilization. The show blends dancing, magics and stunts, with sound, light, water and other stage effects, interpreting the history of 5,000 years of Chinese folk customs.

After the Dragon and Phoenix show we took the subway back to Laojie Station and walk to the nearby Dongmen Pedestrian Street. It was still drizzling at that time.

Day 3 - 20 April 2019

After breakfast we took the high speed train from Futian Station to Kowloon West Terminal in HK. Travel time is only 14m. The fare is RMB68 each. The top speed of the high speed train inside Hong Kong is 200km/hr and 300km/hr in mainland. Since Futian Station is very near to Hong Kong, the highest speed recorded during our journey was 201km/hr.
