2D1N Bagan Datuk
Sky Mirror + Blue Tears + Eagles + Fire Flies
15 - 16 May 2026
Day 1 - 15 May
This trip is organized by the Joy Club of Melawati Gospel Centre. The group of 22 comprised mainly senior citizens started the journey from Taman Melawati. We stopped by Tanjung Karang for lunch at Riverside Seafood Restaurant.
The restaurant has a nice view of the river. The food here are delicious, the prices are reasonable and the restaurant is clean.
The restaurant has a good view of the fishing village with fishing boats occasionally passing by.
Our 8-course meals cost RM300 per table

After lunch we dove to Sekinchan to view the paddy fields and stopped by Hay Cafe for a drink. The paddy is almost ripe for harvest.
We then drove to Bagan Datuk and checked into our homestay that is operated by Blue Tears Island Enterprise.
After checking in we were given a tour of Bagan Datuk town in an electric vehicle. Among the places of interest we passed by are a century-old Chinese temple with a long history, Street Art, Clock Tower Park, Pirate Ship Playground and the pier with the famous landmark "WELCOME TO BAGAN DATUK".
We had an early dinner as we will be departing for our boat excursion to watch eagles feeding, sunset on the sea, Blue Tears and Fire Flies.
Our steamboat dinners ingredients include fresh fish, shrimps, sotong, crabs, fish balls, vegetables and noodles that we can refill to our hearts content.
After dinner we took pictures around the restaurant and enjoy the sunset view of the river while waiting for our boat ride.
Our first stop was to watch eagles feeding. The boat will stop near the sanctuary of the eagles at the mangrove swamp area. The captain will use the horn to call the eagles to come out to tell them “it’s time to eat”. At that time the eagles were seen flying out from their “home” while the captain throws chicken entrails onto the sea. The eagles skim over the water's surface effortlessly before flying off into the trees to feast on their 'catch'
We passed by the The Bagan Datuk Floating Mosque
We were gifted with the sight of a double rainbow during sunset.
Beautiful view of the sunset along the Perak River
After watching the captain scooped up the Blue Tears from the river and watching the fireflies twinkling in the dark mangrove swamp we journeyed back to the restaurant. The Blue Tears phenomenon occurs when bioluminescent plankton light up the waters at night. Unfortunately, there were not much such planktons that night.
The firefly is a type of insect from the beetle family. At night, these tiny insects congregate on mangrove trees that grows naturally in the brackish waters along the river’s banks.
Upon arriving back at the restaurant we were given the opportunity to cup the Blue Tears in our hands for photo taking.
Our supper consist of hot red bean soup and freshly fried crispy shrimp cakes.
Day 2 - 16 May
Our breakfast consist of fried noodles with curry gravy and coffee & tea.
Our group photo before we head out to the Sky Mirror
Our boat ride to the Sky Mirror with the same Captain as the night before
Sky Mirror is named from the mirror-like reflection of the sky on the sandbar that will only present itself for several days every month. These include the 1st and 15th of a lunar month, as well as 4 days before or after these dates. The best pictures are taken when the water level is up to our ankles and the sky is cloudless.
The sky mirror of Bagan Datuk in Perak is actually a black shallow beach, but it only appears after the low tide. When the water recedes to the depth of the ankle, the shallow beach are like a mirror under the sun.
Our photographer and crew created the next best environment for taking those Sky Mirror pictures by setting up a makeshift photo studio with a puddle of seawater in front of the camera for reflecting the images. Surprising the final pictures are equally stunning.
After the photos shoot we spent some time digging for clams but found only a few.
Time to walk back to our waiting boat.
Our lunch is a seafood platter, which consists of a variety of seafood.
After lunch it was time to pack up and check out from the homestay. We drove to Bagan Datuk town and took a group picture at the pier. From here most of us departed for KL while some of us went to the wet market to buy fresh seafood to take home.
Later we drove to Kampung Sungai Burung, which is another fishing village, to buy seafood. Unfortunately the stalls were already closed when we arrived there.
Fishing boats at Kampung Sungai Burung
We ended up buying frozen prawns and fish paste from this shop in Kampung Sungai Burung
We dropped by the Riverside Seafood Restaurant again for dinner on the way back to KL. We ordered something different from our lunch yesterday.
The 2D1N Bagan Datuk Sky Mirror + Eagles Feeding + Blue Tears + Fireflies itinerary was a good retreat away from city life. The seafood we consumed was fresh. The trip is excellent for families and friends to enjoy some fun-filled activities together. The sunset view was beautiful. It was so mesmerizing to see the skies changes colour beautifully overtime.
