19 Days to Guilin, Yangshuo, Zhangjiajie & Guangzhou

Day 8 - 21st Oct 2013
After breakfast we walked along Pearl River to Beijing Road to look for our tour to Zhangjiajie. It is quite relaxing to walk along the riverside. Along the way we can see many local activities.

For my lunch I tried the meat balls and steamed glutinous rice with sausage near Beijing Road
There are other more exotic food like black beetles which I didn't try

Day 9 - 22nd Oct 2013
Today we decided to go to the White Cloud Mountain on the outskirt of Guangzhou. As usual, after breakfast we walked along the Pearl River to Haizhu Station to take the MRT to Zhongshan Station. From there we walked 1.2km to the entrance of the White Cloud Mountain.
Along the Pearl River we encounter this couple begging though we don't know what illness the wife is suffering. We are surprised to see such open begging in China, especially in a city like Guangzhou.

The mountain is a very popular place for the locals to exercise
After an hour or so we reached the top. From here we walked down through another trail to the other entrance. The whole journey is easily more than 6km.

After descending we took the bus back to the city for our lunch and also to book a 2-day & 1-night tour to Nankunshan on 27th Oct after we come back from our Zhangjiajie tour. We had lunch at the open air food fair near to Beijing Road again

Day 14 - 27th Oct 2013
Today we joined the 2 days 1 night tour to Nankunshan. After checking from the hotel we took a taxi to the 2nd Workers Cultural Centre to board the bus to Nankunshan. There are about 12 of us in the group. The journey took about 2.5 hours. Our fist stop is a waterfall.

Nankunshan is famous for dried herbs and teas
Baby rats are consumed by the locals together with wine. Apparently it is a cure for asthma
We were told these rats are from the paddy fields and not those household rats or those found in the drains

For lunch we had the bearded chicken and wild vegetables. Since the two of us can't eat the whole chicken the restaurant offers to cook the other half for our dinner tonight

We rode pillion on a motorbike to visit another waterfall. The bike ride cost us RMB30 but we saved a lot of time and effort walking.

After lunch we checked out from the hotel and visited the mini Huangshan on the way out of Nankunshan

On the way back to the hotel we stopped by a shop that sells all varieties of Chinese New Year Ang Pow packets
Day 16 - 29th Oct 2013
Today is shopping time for us in Guangzhou. We walked to Guangzhou Hotel which is near to Haizhu Station for our Dim Sum Breakfast.

After dinner we spent our time at the Pearl River to enjoy the night scenery
Day 17 - 30th Oct 2013
This morning we shopped for dried sea food at a street across from our hotel on our way to Haizhu Station

Day 18 - 31st Oct 2013
This morning we walked to Zhongshan Wu Lu for another Dim Sum breakfast. We then passed by Beijing Raod again on the way to buy memory cards and more Chinese Tea.

Day 19 - 1st Nov 2013
We took a taxi to Haizhu Station to board the airport shuttle bus to the Baiyun International Airport for out 10:25am flight to back to Kuala Lumpur
