19 Days to Guilin, Yangshuo, Zhangjiajie & Guangzhou
14/10/2013 - 1/11/2013
Day 4 - 17th Oct 2013
After checking out from the hotel we boarded the bus to Zhujiang Pier for our 4 hours cruise along the Lijiang River to Yangshuo. Our cruise include half a day tour in Yangshuo where we will be visiting a Chinese temple, Big Banyan Tree, Half Moon Mountain and the Amazing Cave.
The river cruise begins at 8:30am and we arrived at Yongshuo at about 2pm.
This is the beginning of our 4 hour journey. Weather was cool and we could feel the breeze blowing
This is the front of the boat and the most strategic place to enjoy the scenery along the journey
The river was quite shallow at this time of the year
There are many such boats leaving for Yangshuo from Guilin everyday
Everyone busy with their cameras or handphones
A three decks boat passing by us
Many of such smaller boats cover only short journey
The dining area in the boat where we have our buffet lunch. All the chairs are of antique design
This is one of the many scenic spots along the journey. You can see the images of horses on the hill if you stretch your imagination.
Boats appear to move in a convoy
This is the jetty in Yangshuo
Upon arrival in Yangshuo we walked through the famous West Street to the Yangshuo bus station to board the bus for our half day tour.
Our first stop is this Chinese Temple
Across the road from the Chinese Temple is the Big Banyan Tree
Apparently the Big Banyan Tree is 1400 years old now.
The famous Liu San Jie show was filmed here
The three is so huge that it has to be supported by its own braches which have grown downwards into the soil to form roots.
The actual size of the tree can only be seen from a distance
Our next stop is the half moon hill, which is a hill with a hole in the shape of a half moon.
Next we visited the Assembly Dragon Cave
Bridge leading to the entrance of the Assembly Dragon Cave
We travelled the first section of the cave by small boats
Day 5 - 18th Oct 2013
Today is our free and easy day. We spent the whole day walking around Yangshuo town & West Street. We even walked to the Liu San Jie show site where we will be watching the famous show tonight. It is a 30 minutes walk one way. After the walk we decided that we better take the public transport there tonight. We also bought our bus tickets to continue our journey to Guangzhou on 20 Oct 2013. The ticket cost us RMB140 each and we were told the journey takes about 8 hours.

Paid an old man a few RMB to borrow his pair of birds for this photo at the jetty
The famous West Street which is lined on both sides with shops, hotels, pubs and restaurants. This is the beginning of the street near the jetty
The other end of West Street
The entrance to the Liu San Jie show venue
The singers appear to be standing on the water
Unfortunately it was drizzling that night and we were given a rain coat each.
After the show we went for some nice supper
West Street at night. It was drizzling during the two nights that we were here
Day 6 - 19th Oct 2013
After breakfast we decided to rent a tandem bicycle to cycle around Yangshuo, especially to the small villages. We found a bicycle rental shop that rent us the tandem bicycle for RMB20 for the whole day. While there we also met a lady guide who offers to show us around Yangshuo and lead us to the villages. She charges a guide fee of RMB50 for half a day. This is the first time we are riding a tandem bicycle and we find it quite fun and not so tiring since both us are cycling at the same time, especially when we need to go uphill.
View of the country side
Cycling around the country side in Yangshuo is highly recommended if you are the adventurous type
Typical scenery in the country side
We passed by a small persimmon farm
We only stop for photo taking and could not buy any fruit because there is no one around
Another fruit plantation
On the way back to Yangshuo we passed by river where there are many bamboo rafts for rental
This picture is taken from the bridge
We also passed by the butterfly park on the way back to Yangshuo. Due to limited time we did not enter it
We arrived back in Yangshuo around 1pm. We had the famous beer fish which is very popular in Yangshuo. It was good but too spicy.
After lunch we continue our cycling tour on our own until 4pm
We found these very peculiar persimmon fruit in one of the road side stalls
We cycled to another small jetty in Yangshuo
We went further than the Liu San Jie show site
We took a rest at the Liu San Jie show site to enjoy the beautiful scenery
Day 6 - 20th Oct 2013
This is our last day in Yangshuo. After breakfast we took a leisurely walk around West Street before we check out from our hotel to go to the bus station to board our bus to Guangzhou
This street runs parallel to the West Street. Most of the shops are empty in the morning.
There are many of such small stone bridges in Yangshuo town
West Street in the morning
You can see there is no crowd in the morning in West Street
