2016 - Trengganu, Kelantan and Pahang adventure

Two days and one night trip to Kenyir, Gua Musang, Raub and Bentong

16 - 17 July 2016

We joined the two days one night trip to the three east coast states of Trengganu, Kelantan and Pahang. It was organised by a tour company from Bentong. We left Kuantan at 7am on 16 July and arrived back at 9:30pm the next day covering a distance of more than 800 km.

Day 1 (16 July 2016)

Our first stop was for breakfast at Kemaman town, which used to be called Chukai in the old days. We had the famous curry fish noodles at the Kedai Kopi Tin Kam Leng near the bus station.

Kedai Kopi Tin Kam Leng is a wooden building by the river

The curry noodle is not spicy at all and comes with a kembong fish

After breakfast we continued our journey to Kuala Trengganu. We stopped at the Pasar Besar Kedai Payang(Kuala Trengganu main market). Here we bought keropok, coconut palm sugar, fruits and other local delicacies

Most of the stalls here sell the same things
We bought three different brands of keropok to compare the taste

After the shopping we then departed for Kenyir Dam. On the way, we had our lunch at a Malay Gerai (Stall).

We had simple Malay lunch in this rest area

After lunch we entered the Kenyir Dam for a short boat ride around entrance to the dam.

My 3rd sister and her husband enjoying the boat ride. Due to its powerful engines our boat managed to overtake all other boats even though we were the last to depart from the jetty.

It was going to rain when we begin our boat ride but luckily it didn't until our boat ride was over

After leaving Kenyir Dam we travelled for two hours to Gua Musang in Kelantan. We had our dinner in a local Chinese restaurant. After dinner we checked into our hotel for the night. There was no program for us at night so we went to bed early.

 Day 2 (17 Jul 2016)

After breakfast we visited a Chinese temple on our way to Taman Negara

There is short suspension bridge in front of the temple.

Our next stop is Taman Negara (National Park) where we entered from Sungai Relau entrance. We were told there are three entrances to Taman Negara. The other two are through Kenyir Dam and Jerantut. The most popular entrance is through Jerantut.

Our 4 wheel ride to the Kelah sanctuary
First time seating behind a 4 wheel drive vehicle

The Kelah is a protected fish here. No fishing is allowed at the sanctuary

Walking down to the river to watch the feeding of the Kelah and to catch them for our photo taking

The Kelah started swimming upstream towards us when they sensed it was feeding time. They are so tame that you can catch and hold them in your hands
By brother in law (eldest sister husband)

Me with my Kelah. Each Kelah weighs more than 1 kg.

The water is so clear you can see the Kelah swimming towards you

We had our simple Malay style lunch that was provided by a caterer.

After lunch we make our journey to Raub and stopped by the groundnuts factory for another round of shopping. We can't watch the roasting and packing of the groundnuts because the factory is off on Sunday

The famous Sinn Long groundnuts factory in raub

We had our dinner at the Bentong Big House Restaurant. The famous dish here is the Hakka stuffed tau foo pok. The size is as big as a small soup bowl.

The restaurant was also visited by the famous HK food blogger

After dinner we departed for Kuantan and arrived at around 9:30pm. It was indeed a marathon journey. We travelled througho three states and covered a distance of 800 over km in two days.
